New research has lead to a rather startling discovery. Children who are obese are found to have a 4x increase in the risk of developing type II diabetes. The study which examined over 350,000 children in the UK, have can have profound impacts on obese children lives.
The author of the study, Dr Abbasi, suggests that type 2 diabetes is rising in parallel with obesity.
Although recent studies have suggested that approximately one-third of children in the United Kingdom are overweight or obese, there has been little study of the association between obesity and temporal trends in the incidence of diabetes in this age group.
