Loan FAQs

Approval, Canadian patients and your deposit.

Can I get a loan for bariatric surgery in Mexico?

Yes. Renew works with several lending companies. Approval depends on your financial situation, your credit history and the lender's policies.

Can I get a loan if I'm Canadian?

Yes. iFinance Medicard offers financing for Canadian patients having bariatric surgery in Mexico with Renew.

Can I finance the full price?

Yes, everything except the deposit. The deposit secures your surgery date and is paid by credit card when you schedule. Some financing options add a fee, shown on that lender's form above.

Will applying affect my credit or my total cost?
  • Lenders typically run a credit check when you apply. Some, like SuperMoney, let you check rates without affecting your credit score.
  • Financing usually increases the total cost of your surgery. How much depends on your credit score and the loan terms.

Other ways to pay

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes. Renew accepts HSA and FSA payments and provides an invoice for your plan administrator.

What other financing options are there?
  • Your bank or credit union, or an online lender
  • A loan from your 401(k) or retirement plan, if your plan allows it. Learn about 401(k) withdrawals.
  • Family and friends, which can avoid high interest rates
  • Secured medical loans, backed by collateral. These are more complicated and usually for amounts over $15,000.
  • Unsecured loans and credit cards. Your credit score decides your rate. Credit cards are easy to get but usually the most expensive option.

Check your credit score and report before you apply, so you know your chances of approval and can fix any errors.

Does Renew offer an in-house payment plan?

No. Some centers advertise payment plans that are actually loans from outside companies, sometimes with down payments of $2,000 to $3,000 and high interest. With Renew's lending partners, you can finance everything except the deposit.

Is financing right for you?

Questions to ask yourself before you apply.

Is financing worth it for bariatric surgery?

Only you can decide. Consider:

  • The cost of waiting for surgery
  • The medical costs of not losing weight
  • Whether the interest rate and monthly payments are affordable
  • Whether a new loan fits your other financial goals, such as buying a home
  • That you'll keep paying long after you reach your goal weight

Whatever you choose, get a full package price up front. Renew's packages include your surgeon, hospital, anesthesia, pre-op testing, hotel and take-home medications.
